Nakhchivan State University (NSU) excels not only in education and research but also in its dedication to environmental sustainability. The university's campus stands out for its natural beauty and extensive green spaces, serving as a model for sustainable development. In this series of articles, we will explore the significance of NSU's green campus and its transition to renewable energy sources.

NSU's campus boasts an expansive area of green spaces, totaling 131,552 square meters, distributed among its main buildings and faculties. These green areas not only provide educational opportunities but also create an environment conducive to learning in harmony with nature. With 4,333 trees and 6,473 flowers adorning the campus, NSU offers students and staff a vibrant living space immersed in biodiversity. The lush greenery provides shade and cooling, while the colorful blooms enhance the aesthetic appeal of the surroundings.

NSU's green campus serves as more than just a visual delight; it is a symbol of the university's commitment to environmental sustainability. These green spaces play a vital role in reducing carbon emissions, supporting biodiversity, and fostering student engagement with nature. Moreover, they contribute to the physical and mental well-being of the university community, creating an environment conducive to learning and productivity.

In addition to its dedication to green spaces, NSU is taking significant steps towards promoting sustainability through renewable energy initiatives. The campus is equipped with one wind turbine and three solar panels, harnessing eco-friendly energy sources to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and minimize environmental impact. In 2023 alone, these renewable energy sources generated 20,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy, meeting the university's electricity needs while preserving the environment.

Furthermore, each building and faculty at NSU contributes to the university's green initiative with its own allocated green area. Here is the distribution of green spaces among the main buildings and faculties:

- Faculty of Arts: 3,765 m2

- Scientific Library Building: 7,523 m2

- Faculty of International Relations and Law: 14,295 m2

- Faculty of Natural Sciences and Agriculture: 3,828 m2

- Pedagogical Faculty: 13,085 m2

- Dormitory: 13,900 m2

- Faculty of Architecture and Engineering: 6,382 m2

- Faculty of Economics and Management: 6,526 m2

- Medical Faculty: 2,079 m2

- Faculty of Foreign Languages: 10,356 m2

- Hospital: 1,850 m2

- Veterinary Medicine: 1,427 m2

- Sports Complex: 2,482 m2

- Master and Doctoral Center: 1,202 m2

- Social Service Center: 1,990 m2

These green areas within buildings and faculties further enhance the university's commitment to sustainability and provide students with additional opportunities to connect with nature while pursuing their studies.

Nakhchivan State University undertakes the greening of a roadside area, 1150 meters in length, located on the entrance road to the city. Tree planting and maintenance are continuously carried out in this area. This initiative further solidifies our commitment to environmentally friendly practices and demonstrates our dedication to preserving green spaces and the environment in the region.
